It is clear that every horse owner wants to have a healthy horse. Because the better you know how usually looks and feels your horse is, the easier it will be to determine that the horse is ill.

When meeting with a horse pay attention to her health: how it looks and how it behaves. Perhaps, it is difficult to say for sure that this is the behavior typical of sick horses, and that is already sick. But all the same experienced and caring owner will not be easy to see the variations in behavior and condition of the horse, which can be caused by the impending disease.

There are three main indicator of the health status of the horse: the temperature, pulse and respiration rate of the animal. Note that these readings should be taken with horses that are at rest, not after all the hard work when the horse, for objective reasons, barely breathing.

So, the normal temperature of the horse must be in the range of 37.5-38.5 degrees Celsius. Deviation from this temperature indicates some disease or external wounds. The pulse of a healthy horse should be about 36 to 42 beats per minute. Remember, heart rate, and respiratory rate, should be in the rest of the horse! Otherwise, readings can be far from healthy. And normal breathing rate are 8-14 cycles of breath and exhalation per minute.

It is believed that a small temperature increase (from 38.6 to 39.4 degrees) it is possible after exercise in horses. It’s not always a sign of disease. To identify a sick horse or not, come to the aid of your care to your pet. Look, if there’s anything suspicious in his behavior? All food delaetsa horse?

In case, if the temperature of the horse’s body above 39.5 degrees, there is suspicion of some kind of disease, and therefore you should seek veterinarian.

In rare cases, the temperature may be below normal (37.5 degrees). This is possible in case of prolonged exposure or if the horse is in a state of shock. In both cases you, as a horse owner, you should eliminate the cause and turn to serving your pet’s veterinarian.
